"Observations of the minutia within the everyday inspire my work"

I seek to identify the beauty in the banal and to reinterpret overlooked yet familiar and discarded objects. A tattered strip of plastic parcel strap, a lonely knot of string, in silver and given permanence become monuments to their former selves. The wearing of these ignored and discarded objects as jewellery acknowledges the presence of beauty in the most unremarkable of places and what was once invisible to us can become an object of intrigue. Combined with fossilised and petrified organic materials, such as jet and bog oak, in precarious and seemingly accidental compositions, these jewellery objects become more like treasures of a lost age, rediscovered relics of the modern world. In the creation of this romantic narrative I hope to place value in the most ordinary and everyday aspects of life." education 2004 - 2006 BA Metalwork & Jewellery, Sheffield Hallam University 1st class 1997 - 2000 BSc Single Hons Psychology, University of Leeds 1996 - 1997 Btec Diploma in Art & Design, Blackburn College experience 2008 Exhibition Assistant, Dazzle, Manchester 2008 Gallery Assistant, Kath Libbert 2008 Freelance Jewellery designer, G&A Ltd, Leeds 2008 Visiting Lecturer, Hastings College 2007 - 2008 Jewellery Designer, Buckley Jewellery, Leeds 2007- present Self employed jeweller awards 2007 New Designers One Year On Award 2006 Assay Master’s Collection, Sheffield Assay Office 2006 Enterprise Challenge Award Winner 2006 Goldsmith’s Precious Metal Bursary 2005 The Company of Cutlers Hallamshire Travel Award 2005 Goldsmith’s Craft & Design Awards, Silver
